Workflows
A workflow is a folder of plain text files. Workpen knows nothing about websites, books or any other kind of content. Everything it needs to do a job well lives in the workflow, so a new kind of content is a new folder.
static-website/
workflow.json name, version, description, stages, validator
rules.md short core rules, always sent to the model
resources/ reference notes, one topic each
stages/ one file per stage, in order
outputs/ the files a stage must produce
validators/ checks to run on the result
prompts/ reusable snippets
examples/ complete worked results
learned/ rules the model proposed and you accepted
What each part does
- Rules are short and always in front of the model.
- Resources are reference notes the model reads when it needs them. Each starts with a name and a line saying when to use it, and Workpen builds an index from those lines.
- Stages are markdown files. A header lists which resources the stage pins or requires, which tools it may use, and how it ends: your approval, or a passing check. The body is the instruction in plain words.
- Outputs list the files a stage must produce, so Workpen can tell you when one is missing.
- Validators are a command to run on the folder, or a rubric a model uses to review it.
- Learned rules are the only place the model can add anything, and only after you accept it.
Included
Workpen comes with one workflow, Static website. It builds a small site of plain HTML and CSS: it interviews you, plans the pages, builds them, and checks accessibility before it asks you to approve.
Your own
Open the workflows folder from the File menu, copy a workflow, and edit its files in any text editor. New workflows show up in the workflows command the next time you type it.
